Newsletter are a great way to share information among your employees, especially in a small business setting.

I have worked for multiple employers where I was tasked with helping to start the company newsletter. I always received compliments on my work with the newsletter, mostly because it was something that really brought the employees together. By sharing company contract awards, company announcements, HR reminders, and even feature pieces on employees’ hobbies, we were keeping the company informed.

Here are some suggestions for the company’s newsletters:

1. Project Highlights

If you’re a small business owner who has multiple contracts, a newsletter is a great way to feature “project highlights” of your work portfolio. Sometimes, Project A has no idea about what Project B is doing. By sharing this information, you’re recognizing your employees and opening potential avenues of collaboration down the line. Who knows when Project A will run into a problem that Project B has solved?

2. HR Corner

Human resources reminders and benefit information is a section of your newsletter that should never be excluded. Employees should take advantage of their benefits year-round, so reminding them that they have access to certain perks is a good piece of content to keep as a rotating section of your newsletter. It doesn’t hurt to remind them of the timekeeping policies, either!

3. Charitable and Volunteering Opportunities

Is your company doing something charitable? Are there volunteering opportunities coming up? Put them in the newsletter! These things warrant their own announcement of course, but it doesn’t hurt to remind employees in the newsletter about the great things your company is doing for your community, and how they can help.

4. Calendar of Events

Remind your employees of that holiday party that’s coming up! Or remind them that the company luncheon has been rescheduled. A small section of your newsletter dedicated to a calendar of events is invaluable to your employees, and while likely help with readership.

5. Employees Highlights and Features

You would not be where you are without your employees. Why not recognize them and their interesting hobbies or notable accomplishments in the newsletter? This promotes a friendly atmosphere in your company and allows employees to bond over shared interest.

P.S. Incentivize your employees to read your newsletter with a game!

When you send out your newsletter, incentivize your employees to read your newsletter with a game. Tell them to search for a hidden word or find an answer to a question within the newsletter for a gift card!
